The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia will summon the ambassador of Israel, Simona Halperin, because of the statements she made in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper. This is reported by TASS with reference to the diplomatic agency.

The Foreign Ministry called the ambassador’s statements “distorting Russian foreign policy approaches and historical realities.”

“Theses that the Holocaust is the extermination of only the Jewish people contradicts the resolution of the UN General Assembly. And thoughts about the need to change, as Halperin said, Russia’s “state calendar” border on interference in internal affairs,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes.

“Osoboe indignation” in the Russian department released “disrespectful statements about the efforts made by Russia in its contacts aimed at helping to resolve the fate of hostages” captured by militants of the Palestinian group Hamas, recognized as a terrorist in the USA and the EU.

In an interview, the ambassador of Israel, in particular, expressed regret that the International Holocaust Remembrance Day is not yet an official day in the Russian state calendar.

“Yes, many peoples suffered heavy losses, the Russian people paid for the victory over Nazism with millions and millions of lives. And we remember this. But never before in history has the world known such a massive and systematic extermination of people exclusively on national grounds. Only the Jewish people survived this people. I will repeat it tirelessly,” said Halperin.

The ambassador also noted that Russia publicly condemned the Hamas attack on Israel only after some time, and the group itself is not recognized as a terrorist group in the country.

“Hamasovs in Moscow are welcomed, embraced, and carpets are rolled out in front of them. We cannot understand this. In Russia, they say that these negotiations are being held in order to free the hostages. But it has already been four months that people have been held hostage, and they have not been released.” Halperin said.
