The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has placed the commander of the so-called Russian Volunteer Corps, Denis Kapustin, also known under the pseudonyms Denis Nikitin and White Rex, on federal wanted list.
According to the card from the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kapustin is wanted under a criminal article, but which one is not specified. Cases have been brought against Kapustin on charges of terrorist attack, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, and illegal trafficking of explosives.
Earlier, the FSB named Kapustin involved in the attempted assassination of businessman and founder of the Tsargrad TV channel and an active supporter of the war against Ukraine, Konstantin Malofeev, in the attack on two villages in the Bryansk region in early March, as well as in the organization of a terrorist attack on an oil and gas complex in the territory of the Volgograd region in August 2022.
Rosfinmonitoring included Kapustin in the list of extremists and terrorists.
On March 6, the FSB reported on the prevention of an attempt on Malofeev. The department claimed that an improvised explosive device was found in the businessman’s car. At the same time, as stated in the FSB message quoted by the agency, the terrorist attack was prepared by the “Ukrainian special services” – Nikitin is allegedly controlled by them.
On March 2, the “Russian Volunteer Corps” claimed responsibility for the attack on two border villages in the Bryansk region. Nikitin also participated in the sortie. The Russian authorities announced the death of two civilians as a result of the attack and opened a case of terrorism. Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities call what happened an intra-Russian conflict – the corps consists of citizens of Russia.
Kapustin himself, in a conversation with the Financial Times, said that the Ukrainian authorities knew that the so-called Russian volunteer corps would cross the border from Ukraine and enter the territory of the Bryansk region. According to him, if the raid had not been coordinated, all his participants would have been destroyed.
The FSB also stated that in August 2022, a terrorist attack allegedly organized by Nikitin at an oil and gas facility in the Volgograd region was prevented. At the same time, the FSB reports about this incident in August did not mention Nikitin’s name.
