The mobilized man was given 6.5 years in prison for desertion

The court in Omsk sentenced the mobilized Maksym Vykhorev to 6.5 years in a strict regime colony in the case of desertion and escape from custody. Mediazona drew attention to the sentence.
According to the verdict, 25-year-old Vykhorev “voluntarily left” the military unit in Omsk in February 2023 and began to spend time “as he saw fit.” In July, he was detained by the military commandant’s office. Vykhorev was taken to the military investigative department of the Omsk garrison, from where he escaped, hiding from the convoy. He was caught the same day he tried to cross the river.
In court, Vykhorev said that he was not going to evade military service, but, having learned about the case of desertion brought against him, he decided to go into hiding, “for fear of criminal responsibility.” For the same reason, he resisted arrest.
According to “Mediazona”, Vykhorev’s case of escape from custody was the first since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
