The number of people killed in fires in the Kurgan region has exceeded 20

The number of people killed as a result of natural fires in the Kurgan region has increased to 21, and may increase, TASS reports with reference to sources in the medical services.

Earlier on Tuesday, the agency wrote about 19 dead and 13 residents who received injuries of varying degrees of severity. More than 900 people were evacuated.

In the Telegram channel of the regional government, it was reported with reference to the deputy governor of the Kurgan region, Konstantin Ermakov, that the families of those killed in the fires will be paid 1 million rubles each. Victims and residents who lost property were also promised compensation from 10,000 to 50,000 rubles.

Last week, the situation with forest fires worsened in the Urals. There are 65 wildfires in the Sverdlovsk Region, and 13 large outbreaks in the Kurgan Region on Monday. Hundreds of buildings in several settlements burned down.

A state of emergency is in effect on the entire territory of the Kurgan region. The largest number of victims of the fire – in rural Yuldus of the Shadryna district, the difficult situation is also in Kurgan. In addition, fires covered the Belozersky, Vargashinsky, Ketovsky and Dalmatovsky districts. The Ministry of Emergency Situations claims that by the morning of May 8, rescuers had contained most of the fires. A day earlier, the head of the department Alexander Kurenkov flew to the region, writes RBC.

On Monday, the Sibir.Realii website wrote about one resident of the Tyumen region, in the village of Krasny Yar, Nizhnetavdinsky district, who died while extinguishing a fire. Residents of the second Tyumen village, Uspenka, informed the editors about the urgent evacuation of the orphanage and hospital. A state of emergency has been in effect in the Tyumen region since May 7. On May 8, 12 outbreaks in different districts were recorded in the region. In Tyumen, due to fires, some festive events on the occasion of May 9 were canceled.

On May 8, a state of emergency was imposed on the territory of the Omsk region, Governor Vitaly Khotsenko announced.

Serious forest fires have been recorded in at least 18 Russian regions. The authorities of the regions and “Grynpis” state that the fire is spreading due to the burning of grass and unextinguished bonfires.

Since the beginning of this year, due to natural fires in the Kurgan region, seven criminal cases have been initiated against arsonists. The regional management of the Ministry of Emergencies has identified more than 40 culprits of large landscape fires, the department said in a statement. In the Kurgan region, a criminal case was also initiated under the article of negligence. According to the Investigative Committee, the officials did not take the necessary measures “to ensure safety in the upcoming fire-hazardous period.”
