On the night of April 13, the bodies of two more victims were recovered from the rubble in the town of Tokmak in the Russian-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine. Thus, the number of dead as a result of the shelling, which occurred the previous evening, increased to eight. This was reported by the head of the region appointed by Russia, Yevgeny Balitsky.

Two children were among the dead. 13 people were injured and were hospitalized in the Tokmak city hospital.

On Saturday morning, five more people were rescued from the rubble. “The victims with burns and injuries were taken to a medical facility, three are in serious condition and will be urgently transported to a regional hospital,” wrote Balytskyi.

In the evening of April 12, Balytsky reported that the Ukrainian military shelled the multi-apartment sector in Tokmak. As a result, 25 houses of the private sector and 9 houses of the multi-storey sector remained without gas supply.

The Armed Forces did not comment on reports of shelling.

  • The city of Tokmak in the Zaporozhye region is under the control of the Russian military. Part of the Zaporozhye region was occupied by Russia at the beginning of the war, but its capital – the city of Zaporozhye – remains under the control of Ukraine.
  • In September 2022, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the accession of the Zaporozhye region to Russia. This decision is not recognized by the vast majority of countries in the world. In March 2023, Russia designated Melitopol as the capital of the occupied Zaporozhye region.
