The Perm deputy may lose his mandate because of criticism of the war

Sergey Medvedev, a deputy of the Perm City Duma from the CPRF, was asked to resign and leave the party because of his posts on social networks criticizing the war in Ukraine. “New Companion” writes about this with reference to Medvedev himself.

The day before, on January 11, a meeting was held in the regional branch of the CPRF on the issue of Medvedev’s expulsion from the party, but he himself was not present there.

The City Duma of Perm sent official appeals to the CPRF and the Perm Region Police with a request to give a political and legal assessment of the deputy’s publication on the VKontakte social network.

In it, Medvedev said that he was not celebrating the New Year because of the hostilities in Ukraine, and called for an end to the special military operation (that’s how the Russian authorities call the war in Ukraine).

In the post, the deputy also wished Vladimir Putin to leave the post of President of Russia as soon as possible.

Sergey Medvedev’s VKontakte profile is now closed. Records are available for reading and commenting only to subscribers and friends of the deputy.

At the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian authorities introduced administrative and criminal liability for the so-called discrediting and fakes about the Russian Armed Forces. Citizens who write about alleged war crimes of the Russian army are prosecuted under the article about “fakes”, and those who express disagreement with the position of the Russian authorities on the Ukrainian conflict under the article about discrediting. There are known cases when people were fined, for example, for the slogan “Peace – peace” or the image of the Ukrainian flag.
