Prosecution Requests The Basmanny Court in Moscow will sentence media manager Ilya Krasilshchik in absentia to 9 years in prison on the charge of spreading so-called fakes about the army. This was reported by “Mediazona” from the courtroom.
Krasylshchik became one of the first to be accused of “fakes” in Russia – this article appeared in the Criminal Code in March of last year after the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine. The reason for the criminal prosecution was Krasylshchik’s Instagram post about the murders of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, published on April 3, 2022, as well as an interview on the Shepelin YouTube channel on April 14 of the same year, in which Bucha was also discussed.
The authorities of Ukraine blame the Russian military for the deaths of hundreds of residents of this city during its occupation, journalistic investigations have confirmed the names of at least dozens of those killed. The Russian authorities call the events in Buche a “provocation” and claim that the Russian military did not kill anyone.
Krasylshchik lives abroad, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he is active in anti-war activities. He published the text of his last words at the trial. In it, he mentions Yevgeny Prigozhin’s rebellion, for which no one was punished, and the Russian attack on Kramatorsk, as a result of which more than 10 people died. He again calls the events in Buche “real crimes of the Russian army”, notes that in Russia “courts do not decide anything, laws do not mean anything”, and compares judges with fascists.
Krasylshchik’s lawyer stated in court arguments that the accusation was not confirmed, but was refuted by the evidence presented, including reports from news agencies accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Dozens of sentences have already been handed down for the article about the so-called fakes about the army in Russia, including in absentia – for example, journalist Alexander Nevzorov. Several people received real terms for this article, including politician Ilya Yashin and municipal deputy Aleksey Horinov. Many were tried precisely for spreading information about Buche.
