The Russian authorities announced that 8 people were killed in the shelling of Lysychansk

In Lysychansk, Luhansk Region, occupied by the Russian military, according to the authorities of the region and Russian departments appointed by Russia, at least eight people died as a result of shelling of the building where the bakery was located. It is reported that ten are injured and that people may remain under the rubble.

Representatives of the so-called “LPR” blame the Ukrainian military for the shelling. Leonid Pasechnyk, the head of the LPR appointed by Russia, accused the Armed Forces of Ukraine of a targeted attack on a civilian object. TASS, with reference to the investigation, claims that the strike could have been carried out from the HIMARS installation. The Ukrainian side did not comment on reports of shelling.

The Ministry of Emergencies of Russia published a video showing a destroyed two-story building, damaged cars, firefighters and equipment involved in clearing the debris.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, several people were found alive under the rubble. Several wounded were transported to hospitals in Luhansk, also controlled by Russia.

Lysychansk was captured by Russia in the summer of 2022 and has remained under its control ever since. There were almost no street fights, and in contrast to, for example, Bakhmut, peaceful residents remain in the city. It is located approximately 10-15 kilometers from the front line.

On the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia, especially near the front line, civilians often die as a result of shelling. On January 21, about 30 people were killed in shelling in Donetsk. The Russian side accused Ukraine of shelling. The Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that this area was not shelled that day, and there were suggestions in the Ukrainian mass media that the shelling could have been carried out by the Russian military.
