The Russian military mortally wounded a citizen of Georgia when he tried to detain him

At the dividing line between Georgia and South Ossetia, the Russian military fatally wounded a Georgian citizen when he tried to detain him. The information was confirmed by the Georgian State Security Service. Another citizen of Georgia was detained. Presumably, the reason for the detention was the illegal, from the point of view of the border guards, crossing the dividing line.

“Nastoyaschee vremya” clarifies the names of the victims. The deceased is 58-year-old local resident Tamaz Ginturi, a veteran of the Russian-Georgian war of 2008. The detainee is 35-year-old Levan Dodyashvili. He is probably injured and is in the Tskhinvali pre-trial detention center.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and President Salome Zurabishili called on the international community to respond to the murder of Gintura. Garybashvili called what happened “a most difficult fact”, and Zurabishvili – “a blatant attack on Georgian statehood.” The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia opened a criminal case in connection with the murder and kidnapping.

• From the point of view of international law, South Ossetia is the territory of Georgia. The former autonomous region declared independence in 1991, which is recognized by only a few countries in the world. Georgia considers this territory occupied by Russia.
