In Tver, the “Abraknygabra” bookstore canceled the presentation of a book by scientific journalist Asa Kazantseva. She announced this on Facebook. The management of the store announced the postponement of the event “indefinitely”. Earlier, the meeting with Kazantseva was canceled by the Moscow bookstore “Chitai-horod”.
The reasons for the cancellation are not specified, however, the Russian authorities have recently paid attention to Kazantseva’s anti-war position. State Duma deputy Andrey Lugovoi this week published several posts on his Telegram channel in which he called Kazantseva a “traitor of his country” and made her home address publicly available. Subsequently, the personal data of the writer were removed from the post, but the statements condemning her remained.
- Asya Kazantseva is a scientific journalist and popularizer of natural science knowledge, laureate of the “Enlightener” award. Her previous three books – “Who would have thought! How the brain makes us do stupid things”, “Someone is wrong on the Internet. Scientific solutions to controversial issues” and “The brain is material”, dedicated to neurophysiology and the debunking of pseudoscientific myths, have gained wide popularity. The new book, “Where do children come from”, is devoted to intrauterine human development and modern research in the field of embryology.
- Kazantseva repeatedly spoke out against the annexation of Crimea, against the Kremlin’s persecution of political opponents and against Russia’s war in Ukraine, signed an open letter by Russian scientists and scientific journalists demanding the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory.
