The son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk region, entrepreneur Artyom Uss asked the court in Milan for extradition to Russia, and not to the United States, where he was accused of evading American sanctions and money laundering. Ussa was previously arrested in Italy at the request of the United States.
“Give me over to the Russian authorities, don’t extradite me to the USA,” Uss said during the court session, reports the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
The court decision was postponed. Ussa’s lawyers requested additional information from the United States about the conditions under which the detainee will be held and under what articles the trial is planned in the event of his extradition.
At the end of October, the Meshchansky Court of Moscow arrested Uss in absentia in the case of large-scale money laundering. Uss Jr. was also placed on the federal wanted list, according to the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. It was assumed that this was done so that Russia could request the extradition of Ussa from the Italian authorities.
Earlier, Washington sent a request for the businessman’s extradition to the United States. The US Ministry of Justice considers him guilty of oil smuggling, export of military technologies from the US and money laundering.
