The state owes UAH 22 billion in military pensions by court decision

The state’s debt to military pensioners based on court decisions on the recalculation of pensions amounts to UAH 22 billion.
This is stated in publications “Economic truth”.
According to a source in the Ministry of Social Policy, the debt arose due to the fact that the government did not index military pensions, which should be carried out every time it increases financial support for the military and law enforcement agencies.
“Some ex-military personnel often receive certificates from their former workplaces about the amounts of financial support, and then based on them, they challenge in court the new amounts of pensions, as well as the funds not received for previous periods,” – complains one of the knowledgeable government officials on condition of anonymity.
In total, in 2022, the state spent UAH 58.3 billion on pensions for former military personnel and employees of a number of law enforcement agencies.
By law, the government must recalculate the amount of pensions for ex-servicemen every time there is a change in the allowances of those currently serving.
In addition to former servicemen of the Armed Forces and the National Guard, the state should carry out such a recalculation for former employees of a number of law enforcement agencies, including the tax police, the NABU, the State Special Intelligence Service, the Court Security Service, the State Security Service, and others.
At the same time, it is the former security forces, and not the military, who “benefit” the most from the corresponding norm of the law. Thus, according to the data of the Ministry of Social Policy, available to the EP, in July 2022, the average pension of the military was UAH 9,117, while the former employees of the State Security Office – UAH 12,300, the Court Security Service – UAH 14,220, and the NABU – UAH 20,270.
