The story “Caucasian Prisoner” was removed from the school curriculum

Russian writer Vladimir Makanin’s story “Caucasian Prisoner” was removed from the school curriculum due to the so-called LGBT-themed propaganda. TASS writes about this with reference to Yana Lantratov, the first deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Education.

The deputy claims that she “began to receive mass appeals from parents” regarding the fact that the novel is included in the school curriculum. “This work tells about the homosexual attraction of a Russian soldier to a captured Caucasian militant,” said Lantratova.

In her opinion, this work “insults the honor and dignity of Russian soldiers.” “It was not for the sake of such stories that we sought to create unified educational programs. I am grateful to the Ministry of Education for the fact that they responded promptly, and in March, Makanin’s work was removed from the educational program,” the deputy said.

• Since December 2022, the dissemination of positive information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism has been prohibited in Russia. Fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to five million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
