The suspect in the double murder could be a mercenary of PMC “Wagner”

In the Krasnodar region, two people were detained on suspicion of a double murder at the end of April. One of them was sentenced to 18 years in prison for banditry in 2018 and must be in prison. Local mass media suspect that he was able to be free after serving in Ukraine as a mercenary for PMC “Wagner”.

At the end of April, near Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Territory, the owner of the event agency Kirill Chubko and his employee, animator Tatyana Mostyko, went missing. Chubko’s wife said that the last time her husband called her late in the evening on April 27 – he said that the car broke down, but he met two people who volunteered to help. After that, Chubko did not get in touch. Two days later, the car was found burned in the forest, and about 200,000 rubles were missing from the animators’ accounts.

The Department of Internal Affairs of the Krasnodar Territory reported the arrest of two suspects in the murder of Chubko and Mostyrko. According to mass media, one of the suspects is local resident Demyan Kevorkyan. The Telegram channel “112” clarifies that Kevorkyan initially refused to give evidence, but later told where the bodies of the dead were located.

As Kavkaz.Realii writes, it follows from the sentence base that in 2014 Kevorkyan (by that time already convicted of car theft) created a gang that operated in the Tikhoretsk and Shcherbynovsk districts of the Krasnodar Territory. In 2016, the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced Kevorkyan to 18 years in a strict-regime prison, found him guilty of banditry, robbery, and other serious charges. His accomplices received from 8 to 22 years of imprisonment.

Demyan Kevorkyan could be free after he was recruited into the colony at PMC “Wagner” and spent six months in Ukraine, writes the telegram channel “Krasnodar Teletype”. The structures of the PMC “Wagner” owner, businessman Evgeny Prigozhin, did not comment on the information.

• Recently, there has been an increase in the number of crimes committed by servicemen returning from Ukraine. Thus, in the Kirov region, a former prisoner who fought as part of PMC “Wagner”, previously convicted of murder, killed an 85-year-old pensioner. In the city of Zavolzhye, Nizhny Novgorod region, a participant in the hostilities who returned from Ukraine killed his wife in front of his own young children.
• PMC “Wagner” began to actively recruit prisoners of war in Ukraine in the summer of last year. The exact number of recruits is unknown, it is estimated at tens of thousands, many of them died. PMC head Yevgeny Prigozhin promised the survivors a pardon in six months. There are known cases when former prisoners really returned to their native places after the war. According to Prigozhin, cases of them committing repeated crimes are extremely rare. There are no official statistics on this matter.
