The tenth package of EU sanctions includes €10 billion in restrictions

The tenth package of sanctions of the European Union against Russia implies restrictions of 10 billion euros, said the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at a press conference following the results of the Ukraine-EU summit.

Sanctions, in particular, will be aimed at components used in the production of drones, Ursula von der Leyen said, calling Iran a key supplier to Russia. Also, one of the priority directions is “closing loopholes”, which Russia uses to circumvent sanctions.

The new package of sanctions is planned to be approved by the anniversary of the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine – February 24.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, said that EU sanctions should be aimed at preventing Moscow from restoring its military potential.

One of the results of the summit was the agreement of Brussels to provide Ukraine with an interim assessment of its fulfillment of the seven criteria obtained with candidate status.

  • On Friday, the Ukraine-EU summit was held in Kyiv, and on Thursday, the leaders of the European Union held talks with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. In addition, a joint meeting of the European Commission and the Government of Ukraine was held. On it, the head of the European Commission expressed confidence that Ukraine will join the EU in the future. Last year, the country received the official status of a candidate for membership of the European Union, however, formal negotiations have not yet begun.
