The Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) accused the Russian military of “unprofessional and unsafe maneuvers” in relation to American drones in northeastern Syria.
According to the CENTCOM report, which is provided by the CNN channel, on Wednesday morning local time, Russian fighter jets intercepted three American MQ-9 Reaper aircraft while they were tracking targets associated with the terrorist group “Islamic State”.
According to the American command, which, as noted, released a recording of the incident, Russian aircraft fired parachute missiles in front of the drones, and one of the pilots, approaching, turned on the “flash camera” in front of the American drone. All this made it difficult to control the devices.
CENTCOM commander Alexus Hrynkevich emphasized that the actions of the Russian pilots violated “established norms and protocols.”
In turn, the deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, Oleg Gurinov, said on Wednesday that the drones of the US-led international coalition violated the safety of flights in the area of Syria, closed due to joint Russian-Syrian exercises, five times a day. Gurinov’s words are quoted by TASS.
In mid-March, the American military drone MQ-9 Reaper crashed over the Black Sea, Medusa recalls. According to the American side, the drone was shot down by a Russian Su-27. Moscow said that the drone crashed “as a result of sharp maneuvering.”
