The US Ministry of Finance included three companies from Russia, Kazakhstan and Slovakia in the sanctions list. Their ties with North Korea became the reason for the imposition of sanctions. According to the US, these firms facilitated deals between Russia and North Korea in the field of arms supplies.

Russia’s Verus LLC, Kazakhstan’s Defense Engineering and Slovakia’s Versor were included in the sanctions list. They have one owner – Slovak businessman Ashot Mkrtychev. As indicated in the explanatory memorandum of the US Treasury, Mkrtychev through his companies negotiated with Russian representatives about the supply of more than 20 types of weapons from the DPRK to Russia, which violated the sanctions imposed by the US on North Korea.

Mkrtychev himself, a native of Azerbaijan and a citizen of Slovakia, has been under US personal sanctions since March 30 of this year.

Deputy Minister of Finance Brian Nelson said that the USA will continue to “root out illegal financial networks that contribute to the supply of North Korean weapons to the Russian military machine.”
