The Vatican Apostolic Library has announced that it will implement blockchain and NFT technology to digitize and preserve its collection of manuscripts, books and historical documents. Noworries.news writes about it.

What is known

The Vatican Library launched this project in collaboration with technology service provider NTT DATA. In particular, his solution will be used for digital archiving of AMLAD.

It will make it possible to preserve the library’s collection copies as an important part of the history of mankind, quickly find the necessary documents and make digitized content more accessible to the whole world.

The library collection includes 1.6 million printed books, 80,000 works, 300,000 coins and medals, as well as 150,000 engravings and drawings.

As part of the first step, in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), high-resolution photos of 15 cultural heritage sites of the library will be presented. Images will be accompanied by explanatory notes.

AMLAD is an advanced metadata library and digital archive for museums and libraries. With the help of this solution, it is possible to perform 3D scanning, digital restoration and manage metadata, which will allow to present cultural objects in digital form as accurately as possible.

In the future, the AMLAD solution will be available for other museums and libraries.
