Western countries demand that the United Arab Emirates stop exporting critical goods to Russia that can help the Russian military machine.

He writes about it Financial Times.

Officials from the US, the EU and Great Britain have visited the UAE in recent weeks to explain the full range of their trade restrictions and to force the country’s officials to close possible sanctions violations, according to the participants of the visits.

The US government is concerned that the UAE is becoming a transit hub for goods such as electronics that could be diverted to aid the Russian military effort. Of particular concern, according to people familiar with the discussions, are so-called “re-exports,” when goods are transported through the UAE to circumvent restrictions.

James O’Brien, head of the US sanctions coordination office, joined EU sanctions envoy David O’Sullivan and David Reid, head of Britain’s sanctions directorate, on a visit to the UAE last month to stress his position.

“Our main request is that they stop re-exporting [і] admitted that this re-export is problematic,” he said, adding that “negotiations are ongoing.”

According to Russian customs data, exports of electronic components from the UAE to Russia increased more than sevenfold last year to nearly $283 million, making this category the largest type of product shipped there.

In 2022, the UAE exported 15 times more microchips to Russia than the year before, and the volume of trade in these products jumped to $24.3 million last year from $1.6 million in 2021. The Persian Gulf country also exported 158 drones to Russia last year worth almost $600,000.
