The 14th meeting of the WHO emergency committee on COVID-19 was timed to coincide with the three-year anniversary of the pandemic: it was declared a global threat on January 30, 2020. At the meeting, the question of whether to declare the end of the pandemic was discussed. However, noting the outstanding successes in the fight against the disease, the committee members decided that the end of the pandemic is early. This was influenced, in particular, by the recent major outbreak of COVID-19 in China, which occurred after the country lifted most quarantine measures.
