Hurricane wind covered a number of regions of Siberia. At least two dead and injured are reported. Altai Krai, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Kemerovo and Novosibirsk regions suffer the most. Because of the damage to the power system, thousands of homes were left without electricity.
A 58-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman died in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Region, Interfax reports. They were in a car on which a wind-blown tree fell. Two more passengers of the car were hospitalized with injuries. In the morning in the same city, an advertising sign, blown down by the wind, fell and crushed a passerby – eyewitnesses helped her get out and released an ambulance.
As “7×7” reports, in the Novosibirsk region due to the wind, the electricity was turned off, in the Krasnoyarsk region, the wind blew off the roofs. In the Altai Krai, trees fell on cars and a bus. The movement of electric trains and trains to Barnaul has been suspended, the carriages are swaying too much from the wind.
In many regions, high-voltage power lines were damaged by the wind. Tens of thousands of subscribers were left without electricity, there are interruptions in the operation of the water supply. The mayor of Novokuznetsk, Sergey Kuznetsov, announced a state of heightened alertness in the city. Trams and trolleybuses do not operate in the city, there is no electricity in many areas, boilers are stopped. Kuznetsov said that “the city has not faced such an element since 1978” and urged residents not to go out into the streets, not to let children out of the house and not to park cars near buildings and trees.
Emergency services are working on the elimination of the damaged, but meteorologists do not predict the cessation of the wind in the next few hours.
