On Thursday, February 16, another exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine took place. 101 people from each side returned home.
Among those who returned to Ukraine is the first deputy mayor of Energodar, Ivan Samoydyuk, who was abducted an hour ago by Russian soldiers at one of the checkpoints. “He did not break down and refused to cooperate with the enemy,” said the Ukrainian coordination headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war, noting that Samoydyuk is the only civilian among those who were exchanged this time.
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, in turn, reported that among the liberated soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, National Guardsmen and border guards, 94 people fought in Mariupol, 63 of them were defenders of “Azovstal”.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also commented on the exchange of prisoners. In the message of the department, it is said that the freed soldiers “were in mortal danger.”
