On Tuesday, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Sverdlovsk Region, Tatyana Merzlyakova, reported the death of three conscripts from this region during shelling in the Belgorod Region.

The ombudsman wrote on her VKontakte page that these conscripts served in a railway unit in Yekaterinburg. At the end of April, they were sent to the Belgorod Region for training. “Three guys were killed by a guided projectile that hit a bus with conscript soldiers, seven were injured, two of them seriously,” Merzlyakova wrote.

According to the publication “Ekaterinburg Online”, this happened on June 1. There are no details about whose projectile hit the bus.

In connection with the incident, Tatiana Merzlyakova appealed to the chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, with a request to return to the place of deployment the conscripts who ended up in the Belgorod, Kursk, Bryansk and Voronezh regions bordering Ukraine.

“The Belgorod region is not the territory of military operations, however, the civilian population is dying there now, and along with it, soldiers of emergency service unprepared for combat operations have suffered,” the Sverdlovsk ombudsman wrote.

The authorities of the Russian regions bordering Ukraine regularly report shelling from the Armed Forces after the start of a full-scale Russian military invasion of the neighboring country. Kyiv does not comment on the data.

  • In the Belgorod Region, the situation has worsened sharply recently. Local authorities report massive shelling. In particular, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, about 500 shells were fired in Shebekinsky district in the past day alone.
  • Armed formations acting on the side of Ukraine, the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Legion “Freedom of Russia” took responsibility for several raids in the Belgorod region. The Ukrainian command does not confirm that these combat units, consisting of Russian citizens, are directly subordinated to the Armed Forces.
  • Against the background of the worsening situation in the Belgorod Region, a voluntary evacuation was announced.
