Tinkoff Bank has announced that UnionPay ego cards have stopped working abroad

UnionPay cards from the Russian “Tinkoff Bank” will soon stop working abroad. RBC writes about this, referring to its request to the support service of the institution.

On July 20, it became known that this bank fell under US and Canadian sanctions. Bank “Solidarnost”, issuing UnionPay, also fell under American restrictions. The message of the US Ministry of Finance spoke about further measures against Russia, its citizens, companies and structures in connection with “Russia’s unprovoked and brutal war against Ukraine”.

“There is a possibility that UnionPay cards will stop working abroad. I recommend that you borrow cash in the near future so that your funds are safe,” Tinkoff Bank’s support service told an RBC correspondent. They noted that the bank is waiting for an explanation from the payment system about which countries the card will continue to work in.

In a message on the Telegram channel, “Tinkoff Bank” clarified that the cards will stop working abroad on July 21. “In the near future, we will stop issuing UnionPay cards,” the message says. Bank “Solidarnost” in its Telegram channel also advised clients to borrow cash if they are abroad.
