Turkey will limit the export of a number of goods to Israel until a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip is announced. This is reported by the Reuters agency with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Trade of Turkey.

The restrictions will affect goods from 54 different categories, including iron, marble, steel, cement, aluminum, brick, fertilizers, construction equipment, aviation fuel and much more. The department’s statement said that these measures were taken after Israel rejected Ankara’s request to participate in the airdrop of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The restrictions come into effect on Tuesday.

“This decision will remain in force until Israel, in accordance with its obligations arising from international law, urgently announces a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and allows the unimpeded delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” the statement said.

According to data published by the Assembly of Turkish Exporters, although trade with Israel has fallen since October 7 last year, exports to Israel increased every month in 2024 and amounted to 423.2 million dollars in March.

Turkey condemned Israel’s operation in the Gaza Strip, which began after the attack by the radical Palestinian group Hamas on Israel on October 7 last year. The group is recognized as terrorist in the United States and the European Union.

As Reuters notes, Ankara continued to maintain commercial ties with Israel, which caused a negative reaction within the country. On Saturday in Istanbul, the police detained dozens of protesters demanding an end to trade with Israel.

  • On April 8, another round of talks between Israel and Hamas took place in Cairo. It is reported that the group refused to accept Israel’s proposals for a ceasefire. The terms of the truce consisted of two main points: a ceasefire by the Israeli side in exchange for the release of hostages captured on October 7 last year.
