Ukraine and the EU signed an agreement on combating fraud

Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko and European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Khan signed Ukraine’s participation in the EU anti-fraud program.

It is noted that the purpose of the program is to protect the financial interests of the EU by supporting efforts to combat fraud and corruption affecting the EU budget and ensuring the proper implementation of legislation on customs and agricultural issues.

According to Marchenko, joining the anti-fraud program is another important step for strengthening cooperation with the European Union, as well as building reliable and transparent relations.

Thus, the signed Agreement between Ukraine and the EU will contribute to:

  • preventing and combating fraud, corruption and any other illegal activity affecting the financial interests of Ukraine and the EU;
  • improving reporting processes on possible violations of EU funds;
  • implementation of tools for operational exchange of administrative information between Ukraine and the EU in customs and agricultural affairs.

According to the results of last year, Ukraine had openly a record number of cases under the article “Fraud” over the past 11 years – 82,600 criminal proceedings.
