According to the Ukrainian authorities, since the beginning of the full-scale war, 10,749 civilians have died on the territory of the country, of which 499 are children. 15,599 civilians were injured.
Yury Belousov, the head of the Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine for combating crimes committed during the war, gave such figures in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency. He emphasized that we are talking only about confirmed cases of death and injury.
In early July, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission published data on casualties among the civilian population of Ukraine: 9,177 dead, 535 of them children, and 15,993 wounded. It was noted that about 90% of the victims were the result of rocket attacks and bombings. At the same time, the UN has traditionally emphasized that the real number of dead and wounded may be much higher – in particular, because it is difficult to collect information on the territories occupied by Russia.
- The day before, the American edition of The Wall Street Journal, with reference to the world’s largest manufacturer of prosthetics, the German company Ottobock and its medical partners, reported that during the seventeen months of the full-scale war, about 50,000 Ukrainians, including both military and civilians, became disabled, lost their hands and legs
