Freelance journalist of “Ukrainskaya Pravda” Viktoria Roshchyna has disappeared in the territory of Ukraine occupied by Russia. The International Women’s Media Fund and the editor-in-chief of “Ukrainskaya Pravda” Sevgil Musaeva reported this in a comment to the Daily Beast.
On July 27, Roschyna left Ukraine for Poland and three days later planned to reach eastern Ukraine through Russia. She was last contacted on August 3. Then she said that she had passed several days of border checks, but did not say where exactly she was.
“She is a brave journalist, she undertakes to cover the most controversial topics that require courage. She is not a spy, she is a real journalist, she is not indifferent to the fate of the people who remained in the occupied territories. It is important for her to tell their stories. I call on the Ukrainian government do everything to find her, and the Russian authorities will immediately release the journalist Victoria Roshchyna,” Musaeva said.
From the very beginning, Roshchyna covered the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. In March 2022, the journalist was detained by the FSB in occupied Berdyansk. After 10 days, she was released.
