Ukrenergo reported when Ukraine can resume electricity exports

As of May 24, Ukraine has suspended the export of electricity, but from the weekend or next week the balance will be revised and, possibly, exports will resume in certain limited volumes. This was announced by the chairman of the board of the company, Vladimir Kudrytskyi.

When to wait for recovery

“The suspension of electricity export is a temporary phenomenon, it is not analogous to the decision that was made on October 11 last year, when due to the beginning of shelling, export was completely stopped for an indefinite period. Now this is a situational decision taken by Ukrenergo to ensure the supply of electricity to Ukrainian consumers and businesses,” said Vladimir Kudrytskyi, chairman of the company’s board.

“We expect that from the weekend or next week the balance will be reviewed and, perhaps, exports will resume in certain limited volumes,” he added.

The lack of electricity exports from Ukraine is due to the need to cover the country’s domestic consumption needs throughout the day and to provide reserves for the evening hours of maximum consumption.

Ukrenergo clarified that the electricity produced now is sufficient to meet the needs of consumers.

The situation near the front line remains difficult. Over the past day, due to Russian shelling and damaged oblenergo networks, consumers in the Donetsk and Sumy regions have been without electricity.

Also, as a result of the shutdown of one of the regional power plants, the power output of the power plant in the east of the country is limited.

Where was the electricity exported

Since May 15, Ukraine has started commercial electricity exports to Poland through the restored Khmelnytskyi NPP-Rzeszów power transmission line, which has not been used since the early 1990s.
