The CEC will not invite observers from “unfriendly” countries to the presidential elections of Russia. Commission member Pavel Andreev informed “Izvestia” about this.

“The CEC sends invitations only to its counterparties — election bodies in other countries and to international industry-specific [организации]. We did not invite the electoral bodies of unfriendly countries,” Andreev said.

According to him, many states are interested in sending their observers to work on the presidential elections, but “the logistics of trips to Russia are now non-trivial.”

Earlier, the CEC said that representatives of the CIS countries, Serbia, Venezuela, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and several other African and Asian countries will participate in the monitoring.

The State Duma and the Federation Council told “Izvestia” that they also do not plan to invite observers from “unfriendly” countries. There are now 49 countries in this list, including the EU, USA, Great Britain, Australia and Japan.

Voting in the presidential elections of Russia will take place from March 15 to 17, 2024. The CEC allowed 11 candidates to run, including Vladimir Putin, who is running for a fifth term.
