Opposition politician and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza was taken to the IK-6 high-security colony in Omsk. Immediately after staging, he was sent to a detention center. Lawyer Vadim Prokhorov announced this on social networks. The reasons for placing Kara-Murza in the SHIZO are unknown.

Prokhorov quotes Kara-Murza’s letter to his lawyer, Maria Eysmont: “Now I’m in a pre-trial detention center (yes, it’s all traditional) – I was discharged from the pre-trial detention center-1 in Omsk, and I was sent to stay here.”

Earlier it was reported that on September 4, Kara-Murza was sent by stage in an unknown direction from the Moscow detention center “Vodnyk”. Thus, the road from Moscow to Omsk took about three weeks. Prokhorov quotes Kara-Murza’s letter: “There were long shipments in Samara and Omsk, even shorter ones (without overnight stays) in Penza and Chelyabinsk. I was tired, of course, as one should in such cases… But now I got the opportunity to rest and think in silence about my life”.

The lawyer mentions that Kara-Murza suffers from a neurological disease – polyneuropathy, which is a contraindication for detention in prison conditions. Recently, the politician’s health condition has worsened. In addition, Kara-Murze does not hand over correspondence and for more than a year they refuse to meet with his wife and children.

  • At the end of April 2022, a criminal case was initiated against Vladimir Kara-Murza for the public dissemination of so-called fakes about the Russian army motivated by political hatred. The reason for the prosecution was the politician’s speech before the members of the Arizona House of Representatives. According to the investigation, Kara-Murza spread “knowingly false information” that the Russian military is bombing residential areas, maternity homes, hospitals and schools in Ukraine, which “caused significant harm to the interests of the Russian Federation.”
  • Later, Kara-Murza was charged with treason and the implementation of the activities of an organization deemed undesirable in Russia. On April 17, 2023, the politician was sentenced to 25 years in a penal colony. Journalists and human rights activists repeatedly demanded the release of Kara-Murza.
