Yarovaya proposed introducing criminal responsibility for “Russophobia”

State Duma deputy Iryna Yarovaya proposed introducing criminal responsibility for the manifestation of Russophobia. She made such a statement during the XI St. Petersburg International Legal Forum. The idea was supported by a representative of the Ministry of Justice.

“We must in our legislation, colleagues, I propose to discuss it, I express my point of view, absolutely define Russophobia as a man-hating ideology and establish an independent criminal responsibility for Russophobia,” Yarovaya said.

Deputy Minister of Justice of Russia Andrey Loginov supported the deputy’s proposal. He believes that it is necessary to enshrine the concept of “Russophobia” in Russian legislation and establish responsibility for “Russophobic activity”.

The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatyana Moskalkova, said that last year the number of people contacted in connection with cases of “Russophobia” increased fivefold. She noted that she considers “Russophobia” to be a separate crime.

“Despite the fact that the subject of this crime will, as a rule, be foreign citizens living in another territory, we have the right today, according to the Criminal Code, to pass a sentence in absentia – and let them, at least in the moral and moral plan today, and tomorrow in the legal, are responsible for the neo-Holocaust,” Moskalkova said.
