The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, plans to meet with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, on Monday, the Fund’s spokesperson told the press.

Today, the Board of the Fund will decide whether to approve the second revision of the IMF program for Ukraine. In case of a positive decision, Ukraine can receive up to 900 million dollars of IMF funds by the end of this year.

On November 10, the second revision was approved at the working level. The approved IMF program for Ukraine provides for financing in the amount of 15.6 billion dollars for four years.

The Fund estimates Ukraine’s external financing needs for 2024 at $42 billion. “The support of the international community, including the EU, the US, the Group of Seven and international financial institutions, is vital to returning the country to fiscal and external stability,” said the Foundation’s director of communications, Julie Kozak, during a press conference on December 7.

The Fund notes the stability of the Ukrainian economy, and has improved its economic growth forecasts for this year to 4.5%. In addition to economic recovery, the Fund’s analysts speak of a sharp slowdown in inflation in Ukraine and stabilization of currency markets.

During his visit to Washington, President Zelenskyi plans to meet with US President Joe Biden, American lawmakers on Tuesday.
