8 people died at the construction site of the Tavrida highway in Crimea

On the night of February 2, a fire broke out in cabins for workers engaged in the construction of the Tavrida highway in the vicinity of annexed Sevastopol. As a result of the accident, eight people died, two more people were injured. This was reported by the head of the city appointed by Russia, Mikhail Razvozhaev.
The fire occurred in a two-story residential construction module on Neftyanaya street, the Emergencies Ministry of Russia reported. The area of the fire was about 200 square meters. By morning, the rescuers extinguished the flames and began to clear the debris.
The cause of the fire has not been reported. The Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case under the article on causing death by negligence to two or more persons. According to preliminary data, more than 100 workers lived in the burnt module. They came to Krym from different regions of Russia.
The construction site that caught fire belongs to LLC “DSK”, which is a subcontractor of the main builder of “Tavrida” – ZAO “VAD”. This company was linked by the mass media to the structures of friends of the Russian president, Arkady and Boris Rotenbergov.
The “Tavrida” highway, with a length of more than 250 kilometers, connects the main cities of Crimea – Sevastopol, Simferopol and Kerch. Construction of the road began in May 2017. The movement was officially opened in August 2020. The construction cost was 150 billion rubles. At the moment, construction work continues on the so-called 8th stage of the route, in the vicinity of Sevastopol. The Russian authorities of the annexed Crimea promise to complete the construction of “Tavrida” by the end of 2023.
Due to the large number of fatal road accidents during the construction process, “Tavrid” was nicknamed “the road of death”.
