In Tomsk, a court imposed a fine of one million rubles on retired police lieutenant colonel Viktor Lavrentyev and found him guilty in the case of “military fakes”. This is reported by “TV-2”.

Lavrentieva was also banned for an hour from public statements, including publications on social networks. “All those involved in my bringing to criminal responsibility are significantly younger than me. I sincerely wish them in good health to meet the moment in history when we change places in the process. Even if I myself do not live to live,” Lavrentyev said in his last words.

The former policeman was accused of publishing a post about the destruction by the Russian army of a maternity hospital in occupied Mariupol. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Lavrentiev has published anti-war posts on his social networks daily.

On March 15, the retired lieutenant colonel’s home was searched. They took a non-disclosure agreement from him and his lawyer. The court forbade Lavrentieva to use the telephone and the Internet. The defendant believes that he did not violate the article on “spreading false information” about the Russian army, Mediazona reported.

  • In the early 1990s, Victor Lavrentiev participated in rallies and marches “for fair elections”, and also helped in holding actions in defense of the Tomsk TV channel “TV-2”, when in 2014 the media license was taken away.
  • Another case of “fakes” about the Russian army against the 64-year-old human rights defender from Seversk Marina Novikova is also being considered in the Tomsk region.
