The Prosecutor’s Office recognized the project “For a Free Russia” as undesirable

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia has recognized as undesirable the activities of the association “For a Free Russia” (Za Wolna Rosje), which is registered in Poland.

The department claims that the heads of the organization, Anastasia Sergeeva and Maria Kharmast, “involve Russian citizens in the ranks of volunteer battalions as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and prepare so-called “resistance groups”.

Sergeeva and Kharmast are also organizing “theatrical and political actions” designed to “attract attention and money”, according to a statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia.

The “For a Free Russia” project helps Russians who have suffered family persecution and are seeking asylum in other countries.

The project also supports a positive image of Russians who oppose Putin’s regime and helps unite anti-war groups of Russians in Europe.

  • Since 2015, more than 100 organizations have been added to the register of undesirables. Among them are international expert and human rights centers, mass media, including Russian, opposition and religious associations.
  • This year, the Russian prosecutor’s office regularly replenishes the list of undesirable organizations, including at the expense of independent mass media (“Meduza”, “Novaya Gazeta Evropa”, TV channel “Dozhd”) and opposition structures opposing the war in Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin.
