The person accused of setting fire to the military enlistment office in Uryupinsk was found guilty of terrorism

The Southern District Military Court sentenced Mikhail Filatov, a resident of Uryupinsk, Volgograd Region, to 12 years in prison for setting fire to the military enlistment office. He will serve his term in a high-security colony, and the first three years in prison, reports Kavkaz.Realii.

The former technician of the “Red and White” liquor store was found guilty of committing a terrorist act that caused significant property damage. During the arson, the door of the military enlistment office and the “Zhygula” car, in which Filatov came to him, were burned. The car allegedly belonged to the accused, wrote “Bloknot”.

The attack on the Uryupin military enlistment office took place on September 26, 2022. After the incident, a message appeared on Filatov’s page in the VK social network that in this way he expressed his protest against the war in Ukraine and mobilization. The local mass media reported about the defendant that he adheres to neo-Nazi views and moderates the “Sober Uryupinsk” pub.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, mass arson of military enlistment offices began in the regions of Russia. In total, more than a hundred such cases are known. The accused often claim that they opposed the war. Previously, similar crimes were tried under the article of hooliganism, but from January 2023, the accused will be sentenced under the article of terrorism.
