The FSB proposed to oblige large Internet services to store the geolocation of users

The Federal Security Service has developed a draft resolution of the Russian government obliging large Internet services to store information about the geolocation of users and the payment methods used by them. The document is published on the official portal of draft legal acts.
The resolution was developed on behalf of the government. The text states that the absence of such an obligation now forms “ambiguous law enforcement practice” and “negatively affects” the security of Russia.
The rule, if adopted, will apply to Internet services entered in the register of organizers of information dissemination. Since 2018, according to the so-called Yarovaya law, such companies are already obliged to store customer correspondence, including video and audio, for six months and transfer it to special services upon request.
The registry already includes the VK social network, Yandex and Mail.ru postal and food delivery services, taxi services, Russian dating sites “Mamba” and Loveplanet, WeChat and Telegram messengers, Yaplakal and Picabu entertainment sites, and many regional media sites.
The draft resolution of the FSB does not specify what the site should do if the user refuses to share his geolocation with him.
