A resident of Tver was sentenced to 4 years in the case of preparation for treason

The Belgorod Regional Court sentenced a resident of Tver to four years in a strict regime colony in the case of preparation for high treason. He was also given an hour of restriction of freedom.

This was reported by RIA Novosti on Friday with reference to the press service of the FSB regional office. The name of the convicted person is not mentioned.

At the end of April, as the agency notes, the FSB reported the detention of a 20-year-old resident of Tver who tried to cross the border with Ukraine in order to join the ranks of the “Freedom of Russia” region and start fighting on the side of the Ukrainian forces.

According to the FSB, the young man collected information about Russian military personnel located in the territories adjacent to the border, and also developed a route for crossing the border. In addition, he was accused of planning to set fire to the military enlistment office and send a video report about it to his “supervisors,” Mediazona writes.

According to the data of the human rights organization “First Department”, 2023 became a record for the number of initiated cases on the article about state change. Only according to official information, 63 criminal cases have been brought to the court, 33 of them have already been sentenced. Human rights activists expect that next year there will be even more people accused of treason.
