The motivational part of the decision in the case of Kamila Valiyeva has been published

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) published the motivational part in the doping case of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was previously disqualified for four years.

In the document, the version that the prohibited substance trimetazidine could get into the athlete’s body through dessert is called “inherently incredible.”

According to one of the versions presented by Valieva, the substance could have entered her body through a strawberry dessert prepared by her grandfather on a cutting board on which he crushed pills.

“Yes, we had dinner, my grandfather also often gave me something like applesauce or a berry dessert made from berries… condensed milk, bananas or juice, and maybe… He also takes pills according to the doctors’ recommendations, and probably this pill got into the dessert, which he usually gives me. Or several times I accidentally saw him crush the pills with a knife, dissolve them in a glass and take them. So that I could drink from the same glass either there or at home, I could eat something with that the same cutting board and so on,” Valieva said.

The document states that the defense was unable to present evidence that Valieva’s grandfather actually bought and took this medicine. Gennady Soloviev himself refused to testify in court.

The decision states that ecdysterone and hypoxene were also found in the athlete’s positive doping test. The substance ecdysterone, which has an anabolic effect, is not banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, but is in the organization’s monitoring program in case of a possible ban. At the hearings, the figure skater could not explain how this substance could get into the sample. “Hypoxen” figure skater was discharged at the end of 2020 due to revealed heart problems.

In total, in the FMBA in 2020-2021, the figure skater was prescribed about 60 different drugs, including nutritional supplements and vitamins.

• On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport disqualified Kamil Valiev for four years, starting in December 2021, with the forfeiture of all awards received during that period. After that, the International Figure Skating Union deprived the Russian national team of victory at the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympics, moving it to third place.
