The Russian goalkeeper sent to the army moved to the NHL

The American hockey club “Philadelphia Flyers” announced the transfer of Russian goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov. He signed a contract with the NHL team back in 2022, but was detained by the police and drafted into the army, and then signed another contract with the historically connected Moscow club CSKA.

“Philadelphia” insisted that the hockey player’s contract is still valid. The International Ice Hockey Federation banned Fedotova from playing for CSKA. Restrictions were imposed on the Russian club, the player was disqualified for four months. The decision was ignored.

Fedotov played 44 games in the 2022/23 KHL regular season. In the playoffs, CSKA was eliminated in the first round, lost to “Lokomotiv” in a series of five matches, the goalkeeper played in all of them. The Sports site notes that the player’s statistics this season were the worst in his career. The team’s head coach changed, after that Fedotov’s contract was terminated.

Fedotov will be the fifth goalkeeper in the Flyers. His contract will last for two years. For each season, he can receive up to 1.1 million dollars.

• After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian hockey team was suspended from international competitions, including the Olympic ones. The ban does not apply to the NHL, the league said that it does not consider the possibility of suspending Russian players.
