The head of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), Veronika Loginova, called to punish the person responsible for the doping of figure skater Kamila Valieva – “if there is such a person”.

“If there is a person who acted as an accomplice or even the initiator of taking a prohibited substance by Kamila, who was only 15 years old at that time, then this “criminal” – otherwise he cannot be called, must be punished, up to criminal liability for inducing an underage athlete to commit a violation anti-doping rules,” Loginova said.

The criminal article for doping has existed in Russia since 2016. If the crime was committed against a minor, the guilty party may receive up to a year in prison with deprivation of the right to engage in specialized activities for up to four years.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) informed “RIA-Novosti” that they will continue to study evidence regarding the role of Valieva’s team in the case of violation of anti-doping rules. “We are ready to provide them with the necessary assistance within the framework of our competences and capabilities,” Loginova said.

On Monday, January 29, the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) found Valieva guilty of using trimetazidine, which is prohibited for athletes. During the hearings, which lasted almost two years, the figure skater’s lawyers could not prove that the underage athlete was not to blame for this. The court disqualified Valieva for four years – until December 2025. Her coach Etera Tutberidze did not comment on the court’s decision.
