The Prosecutor General’s Office appealed Trepovoy’s sentence: 28 years is required

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia has appealed against the sentence of Darya Trepova, who was previously sentenced to 27 years in the case of the murder of pro-military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky.

The agency requires 28 years for Trepova, which was requested during the consideration of the case.

In January 2024, the court found Trepova guilty on three charges: committing a terrorist attack by a group of persons causing death, illegal trafficking of explosives, and forgery of documents.

The explosion that killed Tatarsky took place in a cafe in St. Petersburg on April 2, 2023. Dozens of people were injured, many victims will later file civil lawsuits against Trepova for a total of 50 million rubles. The day after the explosion, 26-year-old Trepova was detained and sent to pre-trial detention center.

According to the prosecution, Trepova knew that there were explosives in the statuette that she handed over to Tatarsky, and therefore she deliberately wanted to commit a terrorist attack. Trepova herself repeatedly denied that she knew about the explosives, asked for forgiveness from the victims and said that she regretted Tatarsky’s death.

According to the investigation, Trepova was part of a criminal group controlled from the territory of Ukraine. The FSB previously named the Ukrainian Yuriy Denisov as one of the organizers of the explosion. The prosecution also claimed that a journalist living in Ukraine, former leader of the Moscow branch of the National Bolshevik Party, Roman Popkov, who is banned in Russia, was involved in the organization of the terrorist attack. The investigation confirmed that Trepova received about 190 thousand rubles from him in a crypto wallet.

Trepova said that at Popkova’s request she got to know Tatarsky and went to meetings with him under a different name in order to gain his trust. According to Trepova, handing over the statuette was part of the task for which she was promised a job as a journalist in Ukraine.
