Russia and Ukraine will not boycott the Olympics

[ad_1]

Neither Russia nor Ukraine will boycott the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, TASS quotes the statement of the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach.

According to Bach, the discussion on the admission of athletes from Russia to the Olympics is over. According to him, opinions are still different: some say that the sanctions against those who violated the Olympic Charter are excessive, others say that they are insufficient.

“Usually, this indicates that everything was done well. If both parties are not 100% happy, then you made the right decision,” Bach said.

The Summer Olympic Games, which will be the 33rd, will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Russian and Belarusian athletes will perform at them in a neutral status, only in individual sports and only if they are not connected with military departments or security agencies. Russian national teams in some sports refused to participate on such conditions.

Last week, March 19, the IOC announced that 55 Russian athletes will be able to qualify for the Olympics. Twelve of them have now qualified. The names and types of sports are not specified, but wrestlers, judoists, taekwondo players, tennis players and rowers may be among them: earlier, the federations of these sports allowed Russians to international competitions, despite Russian aggression in Ukraine.
