A court in Yekaterinburg sentenced the chairman of the Sverdlovsk branch of the Union of Paratroopers of Russia, Evgeny Teterin, to nine years in prison for bribery, but released him from the punishment for participating in the war in Ukraine. “Kommersant-Ural” writes about it.

The court found Teterin guilty of three episodes of mediation in bribery for a total of 12 million rubles.

During the preliminary state prosecution, the defendant requested 10 years of strict regime prison and a fine of 30 million rubles. Before the verdict was announced, Yevgeny Teteryn declared that he was not guilty.

A criminal case against the paratrooper was initiated in 2021. According to the investigation, Yevgeny Teteryn promised the management of the Shabrovsky quarry in return for bribes to “solve issues” with law enforcement agencies, the tax service and Rostechnadzor, but appropriated the money for himself.

According to Teterin’s lawyer, the company’s executives owed his client 35 million rubles. When they once again turned to Teterin for help, he did not help them, and the money that they allegedly gave for a bribe, he kept in his debt account.

During the trial, Teterin went to war in Ukraine. In December of last year, he was wounded and dismissed from the service, received a medal “For bravery”, Kommersant-Ural clarifies. This became the basis for release from punishment.

According to lawyer Dmytro Bushukhin, this is the first case of application of this rule of law in Russia.
