The authorities of the Tyumen region called on residents of Ishim to evacuate, as some areas of the city may be flooded in the near future. This is stated in the telegram channel of the regional government.

“There is a critical rise in water on the Ishim River,” the authorities warned.

Temporary accommodation points are deployed in the city. “Yes, the evacuation is going on in the coastal areas, let’s say there. In general, the whole city is preparing, we are waiting for water. There is no water and matches in the stores, the accommodation points are ready,” one of the local residents told Sibir.Realii.

Also, residents of the villages of Palyonka, Novogyreevka, and Afonkyno of the Kazan district are being evacuated due to the rising water level.

Earlier, the head of the Tyumen region, Alexander Moore, said that the authorities could impose fines for refusing forced evacuation from the flood zone.

The day before, Moore warned that the water level in the Ishim River could rise to a historical maximum. 51 settlements along with Ishim can fall into the flood zone in the region. Peak flooding in the region is expected on April 23-25.

In addition, in the Tyumen region, the federal highways “Irtysh” at the entrances to Tyumen and Ishim, as well as “Ekaterinburg – Shadrinsk – Kurgan” are closed due to flooding.

The state of emergency has been in effect in the Tyumen region since April 8. In Ishime, the villages of Pamyatnoe, Kazanovka, and Vykulovo, local residents increase the height of dams themselves so that water does not pass through.

In 2017, Ishim experienced a flood, as a result of the breach of one of the dams, the water flooded residential houses. After them, hydraulic structures were built in the city. The total length of the dams on the Ishim River is almost 10 kilometers, and the height is more than 11 meters.

The critical situation due to flooding is also developing in the neighboring Kurgan region. In the region, 305 residential buildings and 685 homesteads were flooded, the regional Ministry of Emergencies reports.

According to the head of the region Vadym Shumkov, the “head” of the flood is already approaching Kurgan, which is located on the Tobol River.

On the morning of April 16, the water level in Tobol in Kurgan reached 742 cm and continues to rise. In the city, work was carried out to raise the dam to 11 meters and higher. But it, Shumkov noted, protects only the left part of the Kurgan. The governor called for the immediate evacuation of residents of the right-bank part of Kurgan.

  • Flooding continues in several regions of Russia since the beginning of April. Residents of the Orenburg region suffered the most: more than 16 and a half thousand people, including about five thousand children, were evacuated here. The flood has been assigned the status of a federal emergency. According to the latest data, the damage to the infrastructure is estimated at more than 40 billion rubles.
  • Residents are being evacuated due to floods in Tomsk and Kemerovo regions. The flood also affected Kazakhstan: more than 86 thousand people were evacuated from the flood zones there.
