In St. Petersburg, 18-year-old Daria Kozyreva was detained after she pasted a poster with an excerpt of his poem on the pedestal of the monument to the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. A criminal case was opened against Kozyreva under the article on repeated discrediting of the Russian army, the court must choose a measure of restraint. This is reported by “OVD-Info” and “Rotonda” with reference to the girl’s lawyers.

Kozyreva was detained on February 24, the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She placed a poster with an excerpt of the poet’s poem “The Will” on the Shevchenko monument. In Alexander Tvardovsky’s translation into Russian, it sounds like this:

Save and get up
break the chains
With evil enemy blood
Sprinkle the will.

Poem composition – one of the most famous, including in Russia, by Shevchenko, was included in the school curriculum in Soviet times.

The police could not immediately tear off the leaflet itself, so they hung it with a black bag.

Another lawyer of the activist, Vladyslav Sosensky, told “Rotonde” that at first Kozyreva was detained for disobeying the police, and on the night of Monday, February 26, it became known about the criminal case. Today, the Petrograd district court of St. Petersburg will elect Kozyreva a measure of suppression, Polyakov clarified – writes Sever.Realii.

  • In January of this year, Kozyreva was expelled from St. Petersburg University after a report was drawn up on her on December 15 for a post on the VKontakte social network, published on March 4, 2022, criticizing the then-adopted laws on discrediting and so-called fakes about the Russian army.
  • Since January 2023, a criminal case of intentional damage to property has been investigated against Daria Kozyreva. In December 2022, she was detained for having painted the inscription “Murderers, you bombed it. Jews” on an installation dedicated to the “friendship” of St. Petersburg and Ukrainian Mariupol, which was captured by Russian troops. At the same time, another discrediting protocol was drawn up on Kozyreva.
