The editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Pskovskaya guberniya” Denys Kamalagin became a suspect in the criminal case of evasion of the duties imposed on him by the legislation on foreign agents in Russia. He told Sever.Realia about this.

This is already the second criminal case against him. Earlier, Kamalagin was accused of repeatedly discrediting the Russian army — for a video about a rocket hitting a residential building in Uman, Ukraine, during a Russian strike. Last year, he was fined 35,000 rubles under a similar administrative article.

Kamalagin left Russia in March 2022. Then a number of Pskov politicians and journalists were searched in a criminal case of defamation of the governor

Before the case against Kamalagin in Russia, three criminal cases were initiated under the article of failure to fulfill obligations. Accusations similar to those of Kamalagin were presented in absentia to the coordinator of the “Voice” movement in Pskov, Vladimir Zhilinsky, and his colleague from Tver, Artem Vazhenkov.

In October 2023, a charge under the second part of the same article of the Criminal Code was brought against the journalist of the Tatar-Bashkir Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Also Kurmasheva. She was accused of not asking to include herself in the list of foreign agents. She denies guilt, the media corporation condemned the persecution of journalists by the authorities and demanded her immediate release.
