Indian authorities have arrested an employee of the Indian embassy in Moscow

An employee of the Indian embassy in Moscow was arrested in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He is suspected of espionage in favor of Pakistan.

According to Indian intelligence services, 27-year-old Ministry of Foreign Affairs employee Satendra Siwal passed on secret data to Pakistan, including information concerning the country’s defense capabilities. Since 2021, Syval has held the post of security assistant at the Embassy of India in Russia, while the post did not require his presence in Moscow, the job was remote.

The anti-terrorist service of the state of Uttar Pradesh reported that Siwal admitted his guilt during interrogation.

Siwal’s detention became part of measures to uncover Pakistan’s intelligence networks in India. Indian special services report that the targets of Tehran’s recruitment are often employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Hindu publication notes that Russia is an important partner for India in military matters. India is a major importer of Russian weapons. India’s ties with Russia strengthened significantly after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, when Moscow’s relations with Western countries deteriorated sharply, and the Kremlin began to actively develop partnerships with countries outside the NATO bloc that did not join Western sanctions.
