The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the mayor of the city of Sretensk (Transbaikalsky Krai) Yevgeny Kyrgyzov – he is accused of trying to hit two policemen with an ax. This is reported by “Mediazona” with reference to the press service of the administration of the SC in the Trans-Baikal region. The case was initiated under the article on the use of violence against a representative of the authorities. It is not reported whether any measure of restraint was chosen.

As previously reported by Sibir.Realiya, on the evening of March 10, a local resident contacted the Sretensk police and reported that an unknown person drove into his car and left the scene of the accident. Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs found the alleged culprit of the accident in one of the yards, but when they tried to detain him, the suspect pulled out an ax from the trunk of the car and began to threaten him. However, the police managed to twist his ego. When drawing up the report, it turned out that the detainee was the mayor of the city, Yevgeny Kyrgyzov.

Three protocols were drawn up for the official on the facts of drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting police officers.

Local media note that the mayor of Sretensk, Yevgeny Kyrgyzov, is a former policeman. In 2012, he used a table weapon, shooting at passing cars on one of the city’s streets. For this, he was fired from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and received a suspended sentence. In addition, the official has a 2016 conviction under the articles “Hooliganism”, “Intentional destruction or damage to property” and “Using violence against a representative of the authorities”. In 2022, representing the LDPR party, he won the mayoral election.
